Luna is the official name of Earth's moon to distinguish it from the moons of other planets that have been colonized by Gold. The moon is the capital of The Society and the seat of power for House Lune.

History[]

After mankind expanded from Earth to Luna, Luna became the port through which it colonized the other planets and moons in the solar system. This was made possible by Luna's low gravity and lack of an atmosphere, which made it easy to launch spacecraft. Due to Luna's small size and the difficulty of colonizing a new planet, order and efficiency became the chief concern. This led to the first Colors being created.[1]

When the wealthy inhabitants of Luna realized that Earth was entirely dependent on them, and only drained their profits, they rebelled in a brutal war known as the Conquering. These "Iron Gold" ancestors had normal eyes and wore golden uniforms - not yet genetically distinct from Homo sapiens.[2] Earth fought back and lost, allowing the Golds to take control, and causing the new Society to form.

Description[]

Many locations depend on trade with Luna. Its air is stuffy and cloying, the kind that "sticks to the lungs". Due to the gravity being only 1/6 of Earth's, structures can be built a lot higher. New factories are often built on top of old factories, creating a darker, more grim world below - which would eventually become the site of the Block War. One of Luna's main attractions, the Citadel of Light, is a grand palace which serves as The Society's command center and houses the Sovereign. Large acres of land in the Citadel are used to house villas that other Houses would stay in when visiting, such as for the decennial Summit.

The northern hemisphere of the moon is primarily comprised of mountains and seas, while the equator is girdled by a belt of cities.[3]

As an early warning system against invasion, a sphere of transponders known as the Rubicon Beacons floats one million kilometers beyond Earth's core. Each Beacon is as large as two Obsidian, and prior to the Rising, no foreign fleet had crossed this border for at least five hundred years.
